History of Gurudwara Baba Badoana Sahib, Village Dalli Bhogpur

Gurudwara Baba Badoana Sahib is a significant historical Sikh shrine located in Village Dalli , near Bhogpur, in the Jalandhar district of Punjab, India. The shrine is deeply connected to the Sixth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji (1595–1644), the master of Miri Piri (temporal and spiritual authority).

Connection to Baba Bado Ji

The Gurudwara’s name, “Badoana Sahib,” honors a great local saint, Baba Bado Ji.

  • Before the Guru’s arrival, Baba Bado Ji was living, worshipping, and selflessly serving at this site.

  • When Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji visited, Baba Bado Ji devotedly served the Guru and his army, including taking care of their horses.

⚔️ Guru Hargobind Sahib’s Visit and the Encampment

Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji visited the site while challenging oppression and injustice.

  • Encampment Site: The Guru set up his army camp around a large historic pond or jheel present near the site.

  • Historic Location: An historic Beri (Jujube) tree still stands, marking the spot where Guru Ji is said to have sat.

🐍 The Incident and the Eternal Blessing

A key event involving Baba Bado Ji and Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji established the spiritual significance of the Gurudwara.

  • The Snake Incident: During the stay, one of the Guru’s horses was tragically bitten by a snake and died (becoming shaheed). Baba Bado Ji was deeply upset by this loss.

  • The Guru’s Blessing: To comfort Baba Bado Ji and bless the area, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji gave a special order (Hukam). He promised that snake venom would never affect any creature within the village boundary. This blessing means that even if an animal bitten outside is brought into the village, the poison is said to lose its effect. This miracle is a major source of faith for devotees.

  • The Command: Guru Ji then commanded Baba Bado Ji to remain at the spot and continue his selfless service to the Sikh faith and the people.

The shrine is also sometimes referred to as Gurudwara Baba Shaheed (Dalla Bhogpur) due to the horse’s shahadat (martyrdom) at the sacred spot.

🏗️ Modern Structure and Significance

The present structure of the Gurudwara Sahib is the result of collective community efforts, with the foundation filling reportedly taking place around December 15, 1984.

In a recent development, modern facilities were added for the community: Children’s Park, which includes a Play Area for Children, An Open Gym for exercising for young & Old people.

These amenities were introduced in 2020 inside the Gurudwara complex.

The Gurudwara stands as a testament to the historical journey and blessings of the Sixth Guru and the selfless dedication of Baba Bado Ji.

Annual Religious Observance (Mahan Gurmati Samagam)

The Gurudwara is the site of a very large and important annual religious event:
